Wroughton is a large village on the southern edge of Swindon, sitting at the foot of the Marlborough Downs where the town meets open chalk countryside. It is one of the biggest villages in Wiltshire and functions partly as a commuter settlement for Swindon while keeping a strong village character of its own, complete with a village pond, greens, and a good spread of local pubs and shops.
The village is closely associated with the former RAF Wroughton airfield on the downs above it. That site is now home to the Science Museum's large-object store at Wroughton, where the national collection keeps aircraft, road vehicles, and other oversized exhibits, and the airfield is also used for events and as a solar farm.
Wroughton sits on the doorstep of some of Wiltshire's finest walking country. The Ridgeway National Trail, Barbury Castle Iron Age hillfort, and the wide open expanses of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are all within easy reach, making the village a popular base for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders.
With its parish church, historic core, active community groups, and easy access to both Swindon (via the A4361) and the M4, Wroughton offers a village lifestyle within minutes of the town.
