Swindon Recycling Centre — Waterside Park HWRC Guide
How to use Swindon's Household Waste Recycling Centre at Waterside Park — where it is, opening hours, and the all-important booking requirement.
Swindon's Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) — the "tip" — is at Waterside Park, and it takes household waste and recycling that can't go in your kerbside bins. Here's how to use it.
Where it is
The centre is at Waterside Park, Darby Close, in the Cheney Manor area of Swindon, SN2 2PN. It is run by Swindon Borough Council.
You must book before you go
Before visiting, you need to book a free slot through Swindon Borough Council's website. Turning up without a booking may mean you're turned away, so plan ahead. The site is for residents of the Borough of Swindon only.
Opening hours
Opening hours vary by season:
- Summer (April to October): 8:00am to 4:30pm
- Winter (November to March): 8:00am to 4:00pm
The site is closed all day on Wednesdays throughout the year. Always check the council's website for the latest hours and any bank-holiday changes before you travel.
What you can take
The HWRC accepts a wide range of household materials for recycling and disposal — including garden waste, wood, metal, rubble and hardcore, electrical items, and general non-recyclable household waste. Some materials are separated into different containers on site, so sort your load before you arrive to make the visit quicker.
Reduce, reuse, recycle first
For many items, there are better options than the tip: charity shops and reuse schemes for usable furniture and goods, and your kerbside recycling collection for everyday paper, card, glass, cans, and plastics. The council's website has full details of what goes in which kerbside bin.
Always confirm current opening times, booking rules, and accepted materials on the official Swindon Borough Council website before travelling.
